Adamawa Assembly pledges to address challenges in state civil service

The Adamawa State House of Assembly Standing Committee on Public Petition, Public Service and Electoral Matters has declared readiness towards collaborating with the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the State with a view to addressing some of the challenges in the service.

The Chairman of the Committee and member representing Guyuk Constituency in the Adamawa State Assembly Mr. Adwawa Dongolok alongside other members of the committee gave the assurance during a familiarisation visit to the office of the Head of Civil Service of the state and the boards and parastatals under their jurisdiction.

Mr. Adwawa, said that the Committee found it necessary to embark on the visit so as to interact with the Head of Civil Service on the welfare of the workers and pensioners in the state.

He added that, the Committee was impressed with the special attention Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri led administration accord to the welfare of pensioners and civil servants.

According to the committee chairman who is the deputy chief whip of the Assembly, they were aware of all the challenges in the Civic Service, saying that the Committee members are confident that with the caliber of people steering the affairs of the state, things will improve.

Responding, the Head of Civil Service of the state, Doctor Edgar Amos Sunday, appreciated the House Committee members for the visit and pledged to work hand in hand with them for the progress of civil service and the entire state.

The Head of Civil Service informed the Committee that there are thirty nine Permanent Secretaries in the entire civil service explaining that eleven out of number are to retire within the next four months.

According to him, the Service will conduct an examination on the eighth and ninth of September, twenty-twenty, for prospective candidates who depending on their performance will be appointed to fill in the vacancies.

The Head of Civil Service said what his office needed at the moment are official vehicles as well as fairness in the spread of government offices including the tertiary institutions so that various Local Governments are treated fairly and equally.

On the allegation of secret recruitment into the service, Doctor Amos, said there was no such act to the best of his knowledge, adding that the issue of transfer of service was placed on hold so that the dust raised by the earlier reversals settles first.
